What it is
SOL is the asset used to pay transaction fees on Solana. The documentation distinguishes a base fee from optional prioritization fees. A chain’s fee mechanism is separate from the price of its native asset.
A practical distinction
A transaction fee is a network cost, not an investment return. Fee estimates and execution can depend on the transaction and network conditions.
Study exercise
Use the official documentation to distinguish the base fee, a priority fee and application charges. Check units before comparing two quoted costs.
Before using any asset
Check the exact network and asset identifier, custody arrangements, liquidity and current provider documentation. These notes explain mechanics and do not recommend buying an asset.
